Meditec Mini Lifesavers Training Course

At Meditec Training we are passionate about first aid training, so much so that we believe it is never too early to start learning first aid, a valuable life skill. This course has been designed personally by our Managing Director, Andy Memory who has been working very closely with Dale Burr, Head Teacher at Oakhurst Community Junior School, Swindon in designing and delivering this innovate and unique course for children aged 6-16 years old. The Meditec Mini Lifesavers course offers a fun educational approach to first aid, teaching children the basic biology and anatomy of key organs that lie within the body and how they all work together. This training course will look at the basic function of the heart, veins and arteries, as well as functions of the lungs, wind pipe (trachea), bones and the brain. This ensures that the children have a full understanding that backs up why certain life saving first aid procedures are carried out, such as why we deliver CPR, provide back blows to a choking casualty and why it’s important to raise your arm and put pressure on it if is bleeding.

The ‘Meditec Mini Lifesavers’ course teach young people from 6-16 years old how to identify and manage hazards and how to keep themselves and others safe during an emergency first aid situation. Our mini lifesavers will learn how to treat injuries, how to respond to emergencies and, ultimately, how to save lives. All of our ‘Meditec Mini lifesavers’ training materials promote the importance of life and helping others in need. This course promotes leadership skills, installs confidence, aids the development of social skills and promotes self esteem.

The Meditec Mini Lifesaver course is offered to children of the general public at various venues across the south west of England. We provide a full training consultation with schools, youth groups, scout, guides and beaver groups and local authorities. First aid can be incorporated into many areas of the Key Stage curriculum, particularly key stage 2, 3 and 4.

Course Training & Educational Syllabus:

• Hazard awareness.
  
• Casualty communication.
  
• The importance of why and how to use protective equipment, including gloves and pocket resuscitation masks / shields.
  
• When, why and how to summon the appropriate use of the 999 emergency services.
  
• Basic biology of human anatomy and biology, understanding how the heart, lungs, veins and arteries all work to support life.
  
• CPR – Adult, Child and Infant.
  
• Recovery position.
  
• Recognition and treatment of choking.
  
• Dealing with minor bleeding.
  
• The treatment of Burns and scalds.
  
• Recognising and the treatment of a faint.
  
• The treatment of poisoning.
  
• Smoke inhalation.
  
• Electric Shock.
  
• Bone, muscle and joint injuries.
  
• How to treat bites and stings.
  
• Asthma.
  
• How to treat and recognise allergic reactions.
  
• Any other topics children wish to learn about or have questions on.
  

Course Duration
6 hours - (This can be split over duration of weeks, if this is the case, each session must be no shorter than 2 hours)

Assessment and Certification
On completion of this course, all Meditec Mini Lifesavers will be able to confidently demonstrate all areas of this syllabus. Throughout the course our instructors will use simulated incidents using resuscitation manikins. All Meditec Mini Lifesavers will be issued with First Aid certificate of attendance and exclusive ‘Meditec Mini Lifesavers’ First Aid badge.
